During the Beijing Olympics, New Era Gallery presents its 2008 thematic exhibition "Manifesto of the Only Child". This exhibition spans two periods: August 2-17, 2008, and August 19-31, 2008. The theme "Manifesto of the Only Child" reflects on China's unique historical and artistic development shaped by significant national policies like the Cultural Revolution, the Youth Movement, and the One-Child Policy. Artists born before these policies (1950s-60s) draw from experiences of the Cultural Revolution and youth movement, shaping unique contemporary Chinese art. Artists born during the One-Child Policy (since the 1970s) represent a distinct generation, navigating unique societal challenges and contributing to China's contemporary art scene. This exhibition highlights their diverse perspectives through five interconnected themes: "Fantasy Romantic World", "Consumerism and Glamour", "Same-Sex World" (first period), "Reality of the Only Child", and "Virtual World" (second period). It aims to showcase the vitality of China's new generation of artists and their reflections on humanity, society, and the modern world.
