The Beijing New Era Gallery, dedicated to discovering and promoting cutting-edge contemporary art, will host the solo exhibition "Guanyong: Reflecting on Whose New Era" starting July 14, 2007. This exhibition deeply explores the artist's critical examination of current Chinese art and contemporary social conditions. In 21st century China, amid what some call "social transformation," the people, as the protagonists of today's Chinese society, are experiencing subtle yet profound changes. Similar to the Western world, China has formed a distinctively large group with their own existence, thoughts, demands, and concepts, all of which stimulate and transform the economic, cultural, and developmental aspects of Chinese society, exerting significant influence. This seems to mark a new era for them.

Guanyong's art reflects on these issues from multiple perspectives. His unique artistic language and concepts address contemporary phenomena and issues in Chinese society. The symbolic use of the "pen" figure, representing knowledge and power, draws from the artist's unique cultural roots characterized by the colors red, yellow, and black. Items like red curtains, red books (some opened and blank), red scarves or neckties, and red ink carry alternative meanings, hinting at a changing self-awareness and status of contemporary Chinese people. This exhibition aims to present Guanyong's comprehensive artistic vision, inviting viewers to immerse themselves in his unique artistic language and thematic exploration of the zeitgeist.
