"Illusive" emphasizes Wang Jie’s creation of figures in the "posture of empty garments," evoking an atmosphere of absurdity, emptiness, and transcendence beyond time and space. The work delves into themes of life, soul, spirit, humanity, time, space, and the inescapable tragic fate of human existence.
Even when the physical body is concealed, the empty garments still reveal traces of physical life. While the body may be lost, the soul and spirit remain. These empty garments serve as eternal carriers of the era's culture and the body's life, guiding people through time and space, wandering in the flux of time and spatial transformation, highlighting various states of human existence and nature. The primary colors of black, white, gray, and brown imbue the artwork with a strong atmosphere of emptiness and absurdity, intensifying the tragic colors of human existence and its inevitable fate.
Facing these works, we feel not only the predicament and fate of human beings but also the individual dilemmas in today's urban society, where everyone is homogenized, living in a state of psychological loneliness, anxiety, and fear of the future. These delicate, wrinkled, and progressively distant postures of garments, dancing hands and feet, display a barren detachment both among themselves and from the viewer. Beneath the surface, seemingly "scarred by countless hardships," lies the "deep pessimism and anxious fear" brought by modern human society. Perhaps, the tragic fate forged by the development and alienation of human civilization lies within this.
Wang Jie employs a form that differs from the emphasis on concrete images and physical bodies by dissolving the visible image of the "flesh," reinforcing the "empty garments" as the visible form of a second body. Through this, he captures the existence of "body" and "life" in multidimensional time and space. This bold artistic creation may originate from the philosophical and artistic characteristics inherent in his ethnic background.
