Xu Xiangdong teaches in the Printmaking Department at the Central Academy of Fine Arts. With decades of teaching experience, he is deeply immersed in the research, exploration, and innovation of artistic language. His profound understanding of both Eastern and Western art forms has led him to develop a new artistic language system. Although his work seems distant from contemporary art, this distance gives his art a unique and independent style.

In 2007, Xu Xiangdong held solo exhibitions themed "Qi Shape" at the New Age Gallery in Beijing and the Central Academy of Fine Arts Museum. These exhibitions showcased his persistent artistic creations and explorations, emphasizing the unique qualities of wood as an artistic medium. His use of wood to express pure aesthetic concepts and the intrinsic texture of the material highlights a distinctive approach to art. Xu's work explores "negative shapes" or "void forms," reflecting a deeper understanding of the relationship between objects and their surrounding atmosphere, rooted in traditional Chinese philosophy.

This solo exhibition, themed "Ji," explores the impact of globalization on art, highlighting the shocking collisions between Eastern and Western cultures. His works convey the emotional power of nature and life, presenting a blend of abstract and figurative elements. Xu's unique use of wood as a medium and his innovative approach to artistic language make his work stand out in the art world. This exhibition promises to offer a new visual and artistic experience, bringing fresh insights and enjoyment to the audience.
