Artist Zheng Lu, who started calligraphy from a young age, holds deep emotional connections with Chinese characters. He utilizes the unique form and temperament of Chinese characters in his art. His sculptural works are composed of elements formed by welding hollowed-out Chinese calligraphy characters. These characters maintain the traditional aesthetic of Chinese calligraphy in their form. The thematic ideas of his works have an organic relationship with the characters: sometimes the characters elucidate the essence of the work, while in other instances, they closely intertwine with the artwork itself. The characters serve not only as carriers of information but also as marvelous symbols that deeply embody ancient Chinese philosophical thoughts such as "emptiness," "void," "yin," and "yang." The symbolic information exists in dual forms of "existence" and "retention," fulfilling their respective roles under the images of "emptiness" and "reality," continually echoing, contradicting, and interconnecting.
